Shop Local Philadelphia: North 2nd Street, Northern Liberties
Every year it seems like my Christmas list grows longer but I don't mind it one bit. To me, shopping is like a game and the perfect present is the best prize. To get the best presents I look everywhere but the best gifts are always from local shops in Philadelphia. There are so many good little boutiques, whole streets full of them in Philadelphia so I decided to direct you to my shopping heaven. The first place I'm sharing is North 2nd Street in Northern Liberties. Northern Liberties has developed over the last few years and is definitely more of the "hipster" part of the city. There are great bars, restaurants, and coffee shops to cozy up in throughout the winter (as soon as the winter weather arrives!). Nestled among the restaurants are some of my very favorite shops. From home goods to vintage fashion to handmade baby gifts, there is a store for everyone on your list on second street.
Art Star, 623 N. 2nd Street
Talk about the perfect place to find a unique gift: this boutique sells goods made by local Philadelphia artisans. From baby gifts to candles to women's clothing, you can find everything here and it's all locally made. Art Star is where I find the most unique baby gifts like handkerchiefs, baby moccasins, and wooden toys. I also love their collection of prints and cards.
Jinxed Philly, 1050 N. Hancock Street (in the Piazza)
You know how you go into some antique stores and you have to dig through piles of old dishes, dirty oil paintings, and novelty ash trays. You'll still find some novelty ash trays at Jinxed but they sit side by side with mid-century modern furnishings, cocktail sets, and other uniquely curated antique finds. It's the best part of antiquing and thrifting without any of that digging because everything's good at Jinxed.
Once Worn Consignment, 906 N. 2nd Street
A cozy boutique of well-curated vintage and consigned finds that show that what's old is always new again. I always find something I'm dying to have. You can grab perfect coats, vintage party dresses, and adorable accessories. Or you could get those for your sister, mom, or best friend (and shop for yourself after the holidays).
SWAG Boutique, 935 N. 2nd Street
Out of all the places you can shop on Second Street, SWAG is by far my favorite. It's tiny (you almost always get squished in the corner to let someone pass by) and crammed full of the best items for your home, gift items, and for the baby. I'm obsessed with their collection of kitchen goods, all the kinds of things you don't actually need but really, really want. They also have a collection of crazy patterned socks so getting that Secret Santa gift is even easier!
Tomorrow, join me again as we're heading over to Old City to shop Third street! I guarantee your shopping list will be shortened in no time.
