What I Wore in 2015
2015 was a good year for my personal style. The older I get, the more comfortable and versatile my wardrobe becomes. While it is fun trying out trends, my bank account just isn't up for a shopping trip every other weekend. I've also found that a simplified wardrobe of well-loved and quality pieces trumps those throw-away and seasonal fast fashion items. That's not to say that I don't like experimenting with my style; my experiments are just more closely aligned to my personal style. It's taken awhile to get my closet here and I'm so happy with how it's developed.
Usually I do a round-up with at least nine different outfits I loved throughout the year. Sometimes I just can't pick! This year I'm forcing to pick my top six looks from this year and I'm sharing why I loved them so much.
This is one of my first looks on buttons and blossoms for 2015! In the cold winter months I find it hard to do more than throw on jeans and a sweater. I'm also not the flirty mini skirt type. This faux leather mini and white sweater combo pushed me out of my comfort zone while still using pieces directly from my closet. I may or may not being wearing this look in the new year as well...
Just looking at this post makes me smile. This Boden dress was what I wore for my river cruise bridal shower. It was such a special day and I needed a special dress to go with it. I bought the dress at a sample sale really early on in the year and waited and waited for June to roll around. I didn't want a plain white dress so the little blue polka dots were just perfect and went along with my wedding colors.
Summer calls for shorts, t-shirts, and the occasional bikini. As a rule, I keep it casual in the summer. However, some rules are made to be broken and this dressy but casual summer outfit does a great job. I styled this look for a summer brunch in the city so it had to be comfortable for sitting outside in the August heat but still put together for a Sunday. I was nervous that I couldn't pull off the shorts with heels thing, but my cheap Forever 21 wedges have not disappointed me yet. Seriously, when can it be summer Sunday brunch again?
This is the first time I shared my back to school outfit on the blog. Honestly with the beginning of the school year chaos, I'm lucky I remember to slide my feet into a pair of shoes before I'm out the door. So with that in mind, I wanted to keep it simple like this Old Navy shift with a touch of color and fun like my printed scarf and my lace-up sandals. In my fourth year of teaching I FINALLY have a back to school year outfit I can be proud of.
I am overjoyed about the return of the flare jean to our closets. Though I will never give up the five or so pairs of skinny jeans tucked away in my closet, I am definitely having a moment with flare jeans. They are flattering on pretty much everybody and they are just a tad unexpected. Their only downfall is boot season but with this warm winter weather, I haven't put them away yet.
I had to include this outfit since these photos were taken on the campus of my alma mater. It also combines a few of my favorite things: stripes, chambray, flares, and booties. I'm a fairly simple girl when it comes to my personal style but when you layer everything together, it can make you look put together and well-styled (at least I hope so!).
