5 Amazing Blogs to Know Before Your Next Big City Trip
Wouldn't it be great if you knew someone in every city? You'd get the local's perspective on what to do, what to see, where to eat, and where to stay. Instead of going to the usual tourist traps, you can discover all the secret hidden gems that make each U.S. city unique. While we'd all love to know someone in every major city, it's usually impossible. That's where bloggers come in. I've got five amazing blogs you should be following if you're planning your next trip to one of these American cities.
While I've got some pretty stellar blog posts about my favorite city, you'll also want to check out my friend Emily's blog Her Philly. Her blog is all about that Philly girl life with recommendations for everything from brunch to shopping. You'll also get a heavy dose of Emily's practicality and friendliness in each post.

New York City
There are blogs a-plenty telling you how to plan your next big NYC trip. Believe me, I've scoured through them all. But luckily for me I stumbled upon Jackie's blog York Avenue. She lives on the Upper East Side and her focus is on the beautiful, artistic side of New York City. It's easy to get lost exploring her posts on dusty book shops and cozy tea rooms. Jackie showcases the things that make NYC a great place to get lost in.

Last month Nick and I took our big trip to Southern California with a short stop in Los Angeles and adventures in San Diego. Los Angeles is a BIG city and guides to the city stretch from the gritty downtown to the easygoing beaches. While I picked up tips and tricks from all different places the blog I kept returning to over and over again was Studio DIY. Nope, Studio DIY is not a lifestyle or travel blog about LA; it's the most colorful craft blog! But creator Kelly Mindell regularly publishes guides to get you around the city of angels and you better believe they're colorful! From the best pies to wall crawls, Studio DIY is going to help you experience LA in the most unique way possible. (Also check out their travel tab as they often feature cool spots in other cities around the U.S.!)

Instagram for me is a 50/50 split between style and travel accounts. When an Instagram profile can do both, I'm hooked. Kelly of Kelly in the City was found the "old-fashioned" way of endlessly jumping from one beautiful instagram account to another. Kelly manages to balance beautiful home and style posts with serious city love for Chicago (and NYC on the side!). Her photos are beyond beautiful and I'm dying to head to Chicago ASAP.

Washington DC is so much more than the White House and the National Mall. Though it's certainly worth visiting the nation's capital to explore the museums, monuments, and historic sites, there's plenty of arts, culture, and food to explore. The mom-and-daughter run blog, The DC Ladies, shares both lifestyle posts and what to see and do in DC. It's got a good split between visiting DC to things locals will love.
