Wearing: Keeping It Casual for New Year's Eve
Let's start right here: I love sparkles. This time of year is perfect for all the sparkles. From glittery shift dresses to sequined sweaters, holiday fashion is basically challenging your Christmas tree to a "Who Wore It Better?" contest. Nothing is more sparkly than New Year's Eve. In the past my outfits have been full of shine and sparkle. I am known to freeze my bum off to wear something short and sequined to ring in the new year. This year, however, is the first time Nick and I can watch the ball drop in our new home. When the choice is between losing feeling in my toes from the cold or hanging fireside, I'll always go for the latter. It's probably because I'm getting older but I'm choosing comfort over being cool. Along with that, my sparkles will be hanging in the closet on December 31st. I'll be keeping it casual for New Year's Eve but that doesn't mean it's going to be frumpy.
This Free People sweater is one of the best things I added to my closet in 2016. It is comfortable without being frumpy and that open back! I absolutely love wearing this sweater. It makes me feel relaxed and casual and confident. Same thing goes for those leather leggings. Back in November I explained why you need a pair of faux leather leggings in your life and that's still true. They're just perfect for keeping it casual for a fancy night in or out. Another way to keep a casual outfit from being boring? Your shoes. These Target flats were cheap and have been my go-to shoe for staying comfortable during a night out or at work. Basically this outfit is my PSA that keeping it casual does not mean frumpy or boring.
What I'm really looking forward to is the fresh 365 days of a new year. 2017 is going to be a GREAT year for buttons and blossoms. After roughly six years of blogging off and on, things are finally starting to figure themselves out. Here's to a casual New Year's Eve and a fancy new year!
