Wearing: Winter Date Night Sweater Dress

When winter rolls around, I am essentially a hermit. Snow is beautiful and all but this bitterly cold weather? Nope. Getting me to leave the house with my blankets, scented candles, and hot tea can be quite an undertaking. However, sometimes you hit that cabin fever wall and have to get out. That's when it's time to get the husband and go out for a date night. A winter date night is a bit trickier than in warmer months. The main dilemma: how do I look cute instead of like a marshmallow? Usually I'm like, throw on some jeans and boots and it's all good. Though Nick loves me, I think he's getting a bit tired of my "winter casual" look. Digging through my closet, a simple black sweater dress emerged. Totally boring until paired with perfect pair of tights. That's my dream winter date night look was born.

The hemline of this sweater dress is a bit shorter than my normal style. That's why a good pair of opaque tights does the trick. A plain canvas of a dress is one of my closet secrets. It makes it much easier to make your favorite funky things work. I can't wait to pair this super soft dress with my super soft crazy leggings. As I was styling this look for date night, frantically rummaging for accessories since Nick was already waiting, I decided to take a cue from my tights. Bubbles and dots all the way!

This weekend Nick and I aren't having so much as a date night but a date day. We have a Flyers hockey afternoon game and then we're planning to explore some of South Philly. We don't get to that area much (we somehow always get stuck in Fishtown or Northern Liberties) and I always jump at the opportunity to see something new. With spending so much time in the city, that can be difficult! I'm also putting this sweater dress back in the closet, at least for this date. Though it's insanely comfortable, it's not really a wander-around-town kind of outfit. Sorry, Nick, back to being unfancy.

Philly ladies, any recommendations for South Philly day dates? And what's your favorite winter date outfit?
