What to Wear to a Bridal Shower in Early Spring
Will this cold weather never end?!? The first day of spring was Monday but there is a mini pile of snow at the end of my driveway. However, we're in full swing with spring events. I'm talking baby showers, bridal showers, and, soon enough, Easter. All of these events scream "Florals! Pastels! Flowy! Sleeveless!" But it's still pretty cold around here. This is a tricky time of year where you struggle to dress both for the weather and for the event. I'll never forget going shopping for a bridal shower outfit for April and finding the most perfect sleeveless, pink dress in hot pink. The day of the shower in April it was barely forty and raining heavily. Not pretty pink dress weather. After a few more times where the weather didn't line up with my style plans, it was time to come up with something better.
The perfect bridal shower outfit for the early spring is fancy casual. Unless you're a bride; then go full fancy and freeze your behind off! This embellished sweatshirt was one of my best finds from thredup. It runs the gamut of outfit possibilities: bridal shower to weekend errands to a casual night out. It's all about what you pair it with. I kicked it up a notch with a super feminine full skirt from J.Crew in my favorite stripes. I can't wait to show you how to wear this sweatshirt time and again! (Spoiler alert: it's not that hard.)
Now the thing that really makes this bridal shower outfit work: colored tights. Tights are the cheapest, highest impact piece in my closet. They are the one thing that I get asked about time and again. I lean towards plain black tights most days but these navy tights pop in a very fun way. Another thing I love is the way they contrast with the grey heels. If you're looking for high-quality and chic tights, Target is always perfect for different colors and patterns. Hue tights, which can be found at Macy's and Nordstrom, are such good quality and also have a variety of patterns, colors, and textures. Until the weather warms up for real, tights are going to be my stylish best friend.
Fancy casual, warm but stylish, this is how I'm dealing with early spring. But I'd gladly give up my tights for every day in the sixties. What's your go-to outfit for events this time of year?
