Three Ways to Recharge This Summer For A Happier You
Listen up, ladies: it's July and that means we are halfway through this year. You're probably grabbing your "goals" list and monthly to-dos and getting a bit dizzy thinking about all you need to accomplish. I feel you. Goal-setting, making a list and checking it twice, and hustling to make things happen are exactly what I do too. But today I'm issuing you a challenge: slow down.
As a person who's normal job means cramming twelve months of work into ten months, I know about moving a lightning fast pace. Honestly, by June, I'm surprised I'm still standing. However, despite both mental and physical exhaustion, my hustle mentality never really let up. Meaning my summer devolved into scheduled days and ever-growing lists.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for making things happen. This summer there are three projects on my plate that I am psyched to push even harder on. But a girl can only push for so long until she gets burnt out. Do you want to spend the next six months hobbling towards the finish line only to fall short because you were too tired? Summer is the perfect time to recharge for a happier (and more productive) you. Besides having sunshine, longer days, and (hopefully) more free time, it's just a good idea to take a deep breath halfway through.
Three ways to recharge this summer:
Simplify your beauty routine.
Changing up my beauty routine and making it simpler is the biggest way I recharge in the summer months. So much time and effort is spent putting on the perfect face and pushing and pulling hair into submission. Professional life means looking professional. But in the summer, we can relax a bit with less time in the office and those long, sunny vacation days. Instead of heat styling your hair, why not let it air dry? One of my favorite products is Not Your Mother's Beach Babe sea salt spray and it gives my hair just the right post-beach tousled look.
Spend more time outdoors.
This is the season to be a nature lover. Even if you can't stand the bugs, the grass, and the dirt, at least throw your window open for a good 15 minutes and take a deep breath. Take a few minutes each day to appreciate all that blossoming in the world around you. Let the sun shine on your face. When we connect to nature, we effortlessly slow down to its rhythm. Whether you open the windows, head to the park, sit in the sand, or hike through the mountains, recharge and relax outdoors this summer.
Try a new hobby.
Another great way to recharge is to get out of your routine. A new hobby or activity gets creative juices flowing. It can also unblock those stubborn mental roadblocks that happen around this time of year. But do this: keep it a hobby. I'm terribly guilty of starting a new hobby only to make it into a new chore. Like the time I dabbled in hand-lettering and decided to use my new skills to do allll of the signage at my wedding. Nope, that's not how you recharge, people. Instead choose something new and revel in being a beginner with absolutely no purpose other than enjoyment.
