That Little Black Summer Dress
If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I am not the most patient person. The only patience I have is for waiting in a Sunday brunch line and for waiting for the best online sales to start. My lack of patience casts a wide net including but not limited to curling my thick but fine hair, waiting in the line at Trader Joe's, and figuring out what to wear during a hot New Jersey summer. Though I won't claim to be a minimalist by any stretch, I'm very much into the simplest OOTDs in the summer. So when this little black summer dress popped up at Nordstrom Rack, it had to be mine.
Nothing says laid-back and chic summer like a little black summer dress. Lightweight and effortless to throw on, it makes getting dressed for this sticky days so much easier. This slip style is so loose and airy so that if you have one too many hot dogs at the ball game, no one will know! If black is too dark for your summer, there is also a striped version of this dress and I also love this breezy hi-low hem in blue stripes.
One of the things I love the most about this dress, besides it being super easy to throw on, is that it's also easy to highlight accessories. Now I am not the kind of girl who wears a ton of jewelry, scarves or other accessories. But I fell in love with these Madewell earrings because of how unique they are with their geometric shape and love the subtle gold color. Even if you feel like these are too big or too much of a statement, Madewell is killing it in the earring game lately. I love these simple crescent hoops (currently part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!) and these mini hand studs would be a nice, funky touch to any summer outfit.
Also, I'm trying to take a few more risks in the style game. So I twisted and tied this long bandanna. It's just the right pop of color against the black and it wasn't too fussy in the heat. If you're stuck in the same formula of simple outfit, simple jewelry, a scarf or bandanna is one way to take your style to the next level. For some reason people always think you tried a little harder when you wear a scarf!
This weekend I'm headed to Brooklyn for a little adventure and to celebrate my brother's birthday. I haven't been to Brooklyn in so long, mostly because of those darn expensive toll bridges. So on my list is hitting up all the vintage clothing warehouses and hipster coffee houses. I'm also trying to convince my brother we should grab a drink at this music venue/bar that is in a former casket factory. What could be more Brooklyn than that?!? Of course, if you're curious and want to follow along on my Brooklyn adventure, hop on over to my Instagram stories! I promise to (hopefully) update it with some quirky Brooklyn happenings!
