Can I get a "Woot! Woot!" that we reached another Friday?!? I shouldn't complain since, as a summer school teacher, I get summer Fridays. But let me tell you, it's one slow haul to get here. I am so ready to start this weekend. So far this summer every weekend has been booked up. Fortunately, this one is wide open with no plans at all. Except to avoid the summer heat, but of course. When this happens, Nick and I usually just hang out on the couch catching up on Netflix. I mean, how else will I decide if I'm team Nathan or team Lucas?!? (I'm working on reliving those high school days, you know)

As much as I love our Netflix and pizza nights, it's the summer. Which means it's time for a little adventure. So, sitting in the AC on the couch, I brainstormed some easy summer date ideas to get us out of the house. Even if it means stepping into the humidity. Big hair, don't care.

Fun and Easy Summer Date Ideas

An ice cream crawl

This idea was inspired by all the people who visit Philly and tell me how they tried a cheese steak from Pat's, Gino's, and Jim's. But ice cream is way better. So which place has the best ice cream? Plan to visit a few of your favorite local ice cream shops and vote. You mix in chains like Dairy Queen and Rita's or stick to all the local places. If you're in my neck of the woods, Bent Spoon in Princeton would be my top choice for an ice cream crawl spot.

A surprise picnic

Now I'm not talking about a surprise "I didn't know this was going to happen" picnic. Instead, it's all about picking interesting and surprising things for your picnic. This is inspired by one night roaming Target's grocery section and seeing all sorts of weird and interesting prepared and boxed foods. What better excuse to try unique foods than on a picnic? So head to any grocery store with your date and grab all the things you've always wanted to try. I won't judge if you try those biscuit and gravy Lay's chips.

Do a Dollar Store design night

Walking around the Dollar Store I was struck by how many fun party things they have...and it's only ONE DOLLAR. Cheap dates rejoice! You can each choose a date where you'll decorate around a theme. My Dollar Store is currently chock full of tiki-themed decor. Pineapple chickens and daiquiris in plastic coconut cups? Yes please! Make it a challenge and set a spending limit. You'll actually be surprised by what even the least creative partner can come up with.

Go free-gan

No, I'm not advocating digging through dumpsters. With a little internet digging, it's easy to find a few free things going on in your area, especially in the summer. For the Philadelphia area, I'm always checking uwishunu since it's updated constantly with all sorts of events, free or not. In the NYC area, be sure to check out Time Out New York and Don't Sit Home always share unique and free events in Hoboken, Jersey City, and NYC.

Be a kid again

The Target dollar spot is the place to find everything you don't need and everything you want. A lot of times they'll have simple and cheap things to keep kids busy like jump ropes, glow sticks, and sidewalk chalk. I scoop them up for my classroom and for boredom. Honestly, it's super fun to sketch things out on your driveway or sidewalk with a bunch of pastel chalk. And I bet you forgot how much cardio is involved in jumping rope. Pick up a bunch of "kiddie" activities and, for a few dollars, you've got yourself a date night!

Now, coming up with summer date ideas is easy but figuring out what to wear is another story. Thankfully, a girl can wear a breezy, easy dress and it's just right for whatever your plans happen to be. I scooped up this olive green off-the-shoulder dress for my birthday. Now it's my go-to number for summer evenings. How about that sweet bow on the back?!? And those ruffled cuffs are so fun. Usually I shy away from wearing shorter dresses but this summer heat is encouraging me to try new things. And once again, it's from Nordstrom Rack. They have an insanely perfect dress department. As in, I walk in needing a dress and I almost always leave with something.

If you try one of these easy summer date ideas, let me know! I will probably share all of my weekend adventures over on Instagram stories, even if we're just sitting
