When I first told my husband that I found my perfect summer sweater, he started laughing. Though he's gotten used to me coming home with all sorts of "strange" clothes, he wasn't aware of this particular fashion oxymoron. Yes, there is such a thing as a summer sweater. And I am pretty sure I found my dream one. I mean, look at it: pink! Fun sleeves! Flattering cropped and cinched waist! And did I mention that it's pink?!? I couldn't help but have fun when I styled it with some neon tassels. This outfit to me says summer forever, please.

Why buy a summer sweater? Though "sweater" usually conjures up images of softly falling snow and hot cocoa, summer sweaters are not for bundling up. They are a much lighter cotton weave in light colors. When do you wear a summer sweater? Not in a heat wave (thanks, New Jersey). But they are plenty of places and times to wear a summer sweater.

Three times to wear your summer sweater

At the beach

Evenings on the sand can be chilly, especially with the salty sea breeze blowing. Summer sweaters are light enough to be tied around your waist and then thrown on over a tank or a tea when it gets cooler.

On a summer evening

Anybody else get cold on a summer evening out? Of course, my husband thinks this is weird, too. But I swear it gets when the sun sets, the temperature drops and I get a chill. Instead of dragging a jacket around, a summer sweater can be draped or tied and used whenever goosebumps appear. Ladies who get cold in the summer, we should form a club.

To the office (or anywhere else where artificial air is pumping)

I respect other people's right to be hot and want to do something about. That doesn't mean I'm okay with being turned into a Popsicle every time I'm indoors. If you work in a chilly office or elsewhere where the AC is blasting, pack a summer sweater. Because no one looks cute when they're turning blue.

A summer sweater is just so useful this time of year. I am definitely packing this pink number for our trip to London in two weeks. I am also so excited to wear my summer sweater through September. That fitted waist is just begging to be paired with my new high-waist jeans.

Speaking of sweater weather, I am not ready for it to be August already. Anybody else woefully behind on their summer bucket/to-do list? I haven't been to the beach nearly enough times. None of my home projects were tackled. But in terms of relaxing, I think I'm almost there. What will probably be the most relaxing is getting away. Then when we get back it's time to hit the ground running with decorating my classroom. Anybody else wish that summer would just last forever?
