My Favorite Outfits in 2017
We're less than a week away from 2018! You know what that means: time to look back on 2017! It's kind of fun looking back at the highlights from the year. There are highs and lows of every year but I always find that the good things always outweigh the bad no matter what happens.
For my first look back on 2017 on the blog, I wanted to focus on my favorite outfits from this past year. I turned thirty in June and I don't think it's a coincidence that my personal style started to really come together. For years I've been all over the place style-wise, trying different colors and patterns, cuts and textures. Trying different things over the year helped me figure out what made me feel like my best and most confident self. (PS I'm working on a blog post series for the new year about how you can experiment your way to your best and most confident style!)
So without further ado, here are my favorite outfits from 2017 and some things I learned about personal style while getting dressed this year:
In April I went to the second annual PHLBlogger Blog Connect Conference in Philly and did a lot of networking. A simple top in a fun color and chic ruffle sleeve details made me feel confident and ready to network.
In 2017 I also could not get enough of upgraded basics. This flutter sleeve tee and skinny boyfriend jeans are constants in my closet and, paired together, they're the perfect spring weekend outfit.
Off-the-shoulder tops were one of my favorite styles this year (and a lot of other people's too!). I went for the seventies vibes by adding a little flare and some wedge sandals. Looking to the past for inspiration is one of the ways I plan my outfits. I find so many interesting ways to wear the things I already have in my closet! It was comfortable and effortless for wandering around Philly.
Okay so my mantra for 2017 might as well be "Basics are not basic." (That might be my 2018 style mantra too...) What quickly became a staple of my summer wardrobe was this super simple slip dress from Nordstrom Rack. Add a pop of color and a fun vintage handbag for not-so-basic summer style.
Every single lady needs a trusty blouse in her closet. I will stand by that 100 percent. This black blouse is my go-to for that put-together-but-still-casual style. Perfect for weekend adventures or weekdays at work.
One of my favorite travel souvenirs is a piece of clothing. Of course, this blouse isn't a timeless classic piece, but it is from Primark in London and I love it. It's also the outfit I chose for launching Wear She Blossoms. Everything about this outfit screams HAPPY ME! from the fun striped top to my pink pointy toes which totally makes sense for this blog community.
After years of not wearing pink, I leaned into pink in a BIG way. This pink sweater with its cinched waist and balloon 3/4 sleeves is one of my favorite purchases of 2017 because it's so comfortable. I still can't get enough pink so get ready for even more in 2018.
One of the things I hate is buying something for only one purpose. Fall is the perfect time to stretch those favorite clothes a little farther. I took my much-loved Loft dress I wore all summer and added some boots and a sweater for one of my favorite looks of the fall. I wore this look a bunch of times from work to weekend work session at the coffee shop.
2017 was a turning point for me style-wise in accepting that I love color. I have loved color forever, right down to wanting to wear the brightest, loudest leggings in the third grade. However, I always thought that color was too difficult to integrate in my closet of double duty pieces and conservative teacher clothes. I'm so glad I figured out I was wrong! It's so easy to add color, just like this casual end-of-summer outfit with the best shoe purchase of the year, hot pink bow mules. Expect more and more color in 2018!
Wear She Blossoms is all about going places and looking good while doing it. This outfit from our trip to Montclair and it was so darn comfortable and "me" that I had to include it. It has cardigans, blue, booties, and my favorite and best Madewell purse. For 2018 I hope to plan even more road trips and fun adventures so I'm looking forward to planning and wearing more fun road trip outfits.
Everyone knows that I'm not a big fan of winter. I hate the cold, I miss the beach, and everything looks so dirty and bare. The only way to cope is with lots and lots of cozy and cute sweaters. This one from H&M was just perfect for a weekend trip to Terrain in Glen Mills and I haven't taken it off since. Not really but almost!
My cozy, stay-at-home, every holiday holiday outfit is definitely one of the top outfits of 2017 and the perfect way to say hello to Wear She Blossoms in 2018. It's funky and a little bit colorful and sparkly and so very comfortable. It also makes me feel GOOD. That's what life is about right? Looking good and feeling good and doing good. I want to bring even more of that feeling into my life and style in 2018 AND I want to share it all with you!
