5 Outfit Ideas For When You're So Over Winter Weather
I am so over winter. The last two weeks or so I've started to spring clean my closet, donating and boxing up much of my winter wardrobe. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not get the message and I'm looking out the window at 10 inches of snow in the yard. Ughhhhhh.
Since the weather is definitely not cooperating with my springtime dreams, it's time to adapt. Luckily all that getting rid of things is forcing me to be creative when it comes to what I'm going to wear in this weird later winter season. So I came up with five outfit ideas for when you're so over winter weather, but you still want to look cute of course.
A turtleneck layered under a slip dress
You guys know my love for the simplest slip dress is unconditional (see it here and here). It just works with everything. And now it's time to make it work for winter by layering it over my eternal favorite, the tissue turtleneck. This look is the comfiest and I can vouch for that after wearing it all over NYC two weekends ago. We're talking subway, freezing rain, and celebrating my brother's engagement!
An oversized sweater over a maxi dress
Whenever I have extra time at home, I always get into a pinning marathon on Pinterest. Which is how I found a fresh new way to style my beloved oversized sweaters: over a maxi dress. You wouldn't think it would work because, hello, bag lady, but it works. Tuck or belt the sweater for more definition.
Pair a midi skirt with over-the-knee boots
This look is courtesy of Lindsey of The Fashionably Broke Teacher. She's got such great boho girlie style and makes it work as a teacher. I wish I looked half as good as I drag my behind into school! She is great at making dresses work in all kinds of weather and she shared the amazing trick of pairing your over-the-knee boots with a midi skirt. It eliminates the need for tights and keeps your legs warm!
A monochrome outfit with a colorful kimono
Many bright and colorful clothing items are light and airy. Definitely not winter wear. On the other hand, I'm sick of wearing a mixture of black or grey. Thank goodness for the kimono trend. They're bright, colorful, and light enough to put under a coat (so tired of bulky sleeves and wanting to yell, "I can't put my arms down!").
Long-sleeved stripes under a jumpsuit
Much like layering a turtleneck under a slip dress, layering stripes or another long sleeve shirt under a jumpsuit helps spring/summer items do fall/winter duty. While you can also throw a sweater over a jumpsuit (yup, been there, done that), I love how much more streamlined it looks and easier to go from the cold outdoors to the overheated indoors.
