Why Everyone's Wearing Wide Leg Cropped Pants This Summer
We have THIRTEEN more days left in the school year. In the words of the incomparable JVN (of Queer Eye, duh): CAN YOU BELIEVE?!? I know, I know: we teachers have it easy with our summers off. But have you ever tried to wrangle 24 ten year olds when there's blue skies and the community pool is open? I am more than ready to officially, or even unofficially, get summer started.
Official or not, I'm switching up my style from spring to summer. It's time to cave to the sticky, hot weather in New Jersey.
Since it's early summer, my legs are looking as pale as a piece of paper. And god forbid I sit still for two seconds to put on self tanner. So I've been avoiding shorts and leaning into early summer's biggest trend: wide leg cropped pants.
You might be like, yea, no way. I feel you because I definitely did not see why people were all about these big, billowy pants...at first. But now I am in LOVE. And believe me, everyone's going to wear wide leg cropped pants this summer.
Why? Because they are insanely comfortable.
These pants were a Primark find, which was just perfect since I wasn't 100 percent sold. They're a light textured cotton and they're just like pajama pants. So, so comfortable. The thing is, wide legged pants are like wearing pajamas, no matter what fabric they're in. The wide leg is breezy and effortless. They don't cling in the summer humidity and they definitely don't squeeze where you don't want to be squeezed, if you know what I'm talking about.
Also, they are low-key chic.
You all know I'm cautious about trends. I totally believe it's okay to be late to the party as long as you wear it for you. Wide leg cropped pants fly in the face of everything else we've been wearing on bottom for the last few years. The new silhouette feels chic and fresh for the summer.
And they are ready for anything.
Wide leg cropped pants are your versatile summertime best friend. They will keep you looking chic and feeling comfortable at work. You'll look breezy and fresh at happy hour on the patio. And you can lounge around in them on the weekend.
I'm probably going to grab a pair in some sort of denim, white or blue, to get a more structured look. Is it weird that I feel like a tres sophisticated Parisian or unflappable New Yorker in my wide legged crop pants? If you choose to join me on this journey into a wider, chicer silhouette for the summer, I hope you feel just as fun and fancy in your wide leg cropped pants!
