Four Favorite and Effortless Fall Looks That Always Win

Enough with this rain and humidity already! I like a good rainy day for enjoying chai tea lattes and catching up on my reading but it feels like we haven’t seen the sun since August. By now I’ve completely given up on blowdrying my hair and you definitely don’t want to see it.

Summer will always be my favorite because you simply can’t beat a good beach day, but I’m definitely ready for fall right now. Since I’m not a pumpkin spice latte fan, the change in season is marked by slowly switching the closet over. Except I have a slight problem this year: I don’t fit into most of my favorite fall clothes (you can read why here).

As I looked through some of my favorite past outfits (as you do), I tried to figure out why I love them so much and if they’ll still work in this season of my life.

These four favorite fall outfits are all super simple; you can mix and match and don’t need to shop my exact pieces to make them work. They also look great no matter what size you are or changes your body is experiencing.

Layering a cape over literally anything

Layering is my jam and nothing can beat a cape. It’s simple, adds just enough warmth, and somehow always looks so chic no matter what. I still have this American Eagle cape and wear it whenever I need just a little something.

Plaids and sweaters and all the layers

I already told you how much I love layering. And nothing says fall like a great plaid shirt layered under a cozy sweater. I’ve kept this white sweater forever (and featured it in many, many outfits) because it’s light and loose and looks great over anything. I also always invest in a new plaid shirt every fall because, even though I always say I won’t wear it too much, it’s definitely happening.

Making summer dresses last longer with sweaters and boots

I may have a walk-in closet but I don’t have the money to equip it with tons of different clothes for each season. Mostly I’m looking for ways to stretch clothes between two seasons. When I started layering light sweaters over dresses, it was definitely a win. It’s flattering and effortless. Through some boots in there and boom! Fall!

Long tunics and tanks with your favorite cardigan

One of my all-time favorite outfits was from last fall exploring Montclair. Once again, the best fall outfits make the most out of summer staples like this long, flowy white tank. Plus long layers are great with fall’s jeans and cardigans.
