April's Reading, Watching, Listening, and Loving
I probably say this most months but it feels like April just flew by. Most of this month was spent adjusting to the fact that Violet is now much more engaged with her surroundings. I spent a lot more time dancing around the living room to the Okee Dokee Brothers and cheering her on during tummy time. Then there was all the good weather! If the sun is shining, we’re going on a walk. I think time in the sun helps with Violet’s sleep and probably mine too. I never really loved spring like I do the summer and fall but this year I’m fully embracing it.
Reading: Who Thought This Was A Good Idea? by Alyssa Mastromonaco
I’m cheating a little bit because I finished this book really early in April and my reading life has been basically non-existent. BUT it’s a very good book so I’m happy to share it on my April list! Alyssa Mastromonaco is the former Deputy Chief of Staff for Barack Obama in addition to a really interesting career path. In this book she talks a lot about her time on Obama’s campaign and in the White House but also what got her on her path and what came after. Mastromonaco weaves together her life experiences that are hilarious, cringe-worthy, awe-inspiring, and stressful to share real advice for making your way into a career and a life that inspires you.
Watching: The Bold Type, Season 3
If you haven’t joined The Bold Type wagon, what are you waiting for?!? In case you’re not acquainted with this amazing show, it's all about the daily lives of three young women working at a women’s magazine in NYC (the magazine is loosely based on Cosmopolitan but I would say it’s closer to Glamour). There’s Jane, a writer who is dealing with the news she has the BRCA gene. Then there’s Kat, who is exploring her sexuality while being the badass director of social media for the magazine. And then my favorite, Sutton, who’s pursuing her dream of working in fashion and falling in love with someone she shouldn’t.
I love that it shows young women in real life situations. Work frustrations, break-ups, health issues, falling in love, all set to a great soundtrack. It’s a light show without being frivolous. Plus the clothes are just amazing!
Listening: Maggie Rogers
I think I found Maggie Rogers by hearing it on someone’s Instagram. I am not above being influenced! Her music is perfect for this season: energizing, soft, and refreshing. All I do is tell my Echo to put on Maggie Rogers and then sip on a lemon lime LaCroix.
Loving: CosRx Acne Pimple Master Patch
These little pimple patches are my saving grace right now! My skin always struggles when the weather changes and it’s even worse right now since I’m trying to figure out a new skincare regimen. So when a little spot pops up, you just stick one of these on, wait overnight (though really deep, tricky ones take a bit longer). By some witchcraft this little sticker pulls out all the gunk and basically makes the pimple disappear. Love it!
