New Year, New Goals
As the Christmas season is winding down, we are rapidly approaching the new year. Along with the new year, there are expectations and the excitement of tackling goals and projects and making improvements wherever needed. For me, 2o11 was a transition year as I went back to school and am becoming the person I am meant to be. It feels like it went by too fast and I barely had time to stop and smell the roses. While 2012 is gearing up to be full of excitement, it holds a lot of unknowns. Despite this, I am so excited for 2o12 to begin! I have four simple goals for 2012:
1. Do more for others: Every day I am inspired by ordinary people who do so much for others in their community and around the world. I have been inspired by projects big like Toms shoes and smaller ones like The Shine Project. I have always seen myself as someone who can do anything and I want to do more. For 2012 I will work on creating a life that impacts others positively.
2. Work harder: 2012 is going to be a high stakes year and this kind of frightens me. But I am not someone who scares easily and the only remedy for big bets is to work harder. I will be the best at all that I tackle this year including doing what I am sure I am meant to do. Working harder not only means doing so in my professional life but also working on my personal life. I will work on my relationships with the people I love and continue to work on growing into a person I like. Nothing can replace hard work.
3. Focus more: Sometimes I have this overwhelming feeling of disorganization. There are so many thoughts filtering through my brain that I can't figure out what I really need to be doing in the moment. I want to work on calming myself down and focusing on what really matters in the moment. I want to make sure that I am doing what needs to be done so that I am making the most out of this year and my life.
4. Develop healthier habits: I try really hard to be healthy but I have found myself lapsing more and more into unhealthy ones. I want to be more mindful of taking care of my body and mind. I will drink more water, be more active, eat more vegetables and consume less sugar. My sweet tooth may rebel but I know my body will be happier and I will be happier if I take care of myself. A healthy body, a healthy mind, a healthy new year.
I am very excited to embark on the journey to make these new goals happen. As for my goals last year, I think I did okay. The first goal was to get back into running shape. I did pretty well on this goal in the first half of the year...until school intervened. I'll give myself a little pass on that one. My second goal was to design more and to be more creative. That goal, I believe, was realized. I tried to be more creative with my clothing and thrifted pretty objects for my little room. I have been working on knitting and sewing projects I came up with on my own (and that will pop up here when I have finally finish them!). I am proud of myself for cultivating all this creativity in my everyday life. The last goal was to be a better blogger. This goal is something I am still working on and will continue this year. And this is definitely a question better left to my readers, though I feel as though I am working hard and producing a blog I am very proud of.
What are your new year goals? Aren't you excited for this new year?!
